Arnold & Son present a new timepiece with a movement that incorporates all the classic features of the precision chronometers produced by one of England’s most renowned watchmakers, John Arnold.

The TB88 is fitted with the manually-wound A&S5003 calibre, which has been conceived, designed and manufactured in-house at Arnold & Sons. Its dead-beat seconds function (which counts whole seconds, rather than fractions based on the oscillations of the balance) harks back to Arnold’s precision marine chronometers that were used, because of their accuracy, to determine longitude at sea. The renown of Arnold’s marine chronometers was such that they were used by England’s Royal Navy as well as explorers such as James Cook, Matthew Flinders and George Vancouver.

The fine movement is given pride of place on the dial side of the watch, thanks to an inverse construction. Its symmetrical design places the two barrels at the top (offering a power reserve of 100 hours) and the balance wheel and dead-beat seconds indicator beneath. The movement’s English design also stands out, with features such as straight-cut bridges – 16 in total for each pivoting element in the movement – and hand-chamfered, polished edges with contrasting brushed surfaces.

The TB88 from Arnold Son is available in either an 18-carat rose gold case or stainless-steel case measuring 46 millimetres in diameter, which is water resistant to 30 meters and secured to the wearer’s wrist by a hand-stitched black alligator strap.
