MB&F moves further back into the past for the inspiration for the second of its Legacy Machines. Whereas the first machine was a three-dimensional representation of what a timepiece by Maximilian Büsser would have looked like a century ago (before the space age came and science fiction inspired his modern-day futuristic designs), the new Legacy Machine 2 goes back even further, some 250 years to be precise, to a period when some of the most famous names in watchmaking were alive.

The likes of Abraham-Louis Breguet, Ferdinand Berthoud and Antide Janvier all experimented with double balance wheels and it is this technology that has been chosen for the second Legacy Machine. The architecture retains the classic configuration of the first piece but with the unmistakable three-dimensional touch conferred by Maximilian Büsser’s design, with the two balance wheels hovering above the dial under a highly domed sapphire crystal.

The two balance wheels are connected to a single movement using two independent escapements and a planetary differential that transmits the average of the rates of the two balance wheels to a single gear train.

Like the first piece, Jean-François Mojon of Chronode and Kari Voutilainen worked together to produce this piece, which is available in 18-carat red or white gold, as well as in a limited edition of 18 pieces in platinum 950 with a sky-blue dial.
