The Swiss manufacture hailing from the Jura region has just added to its signature 1942 collection with two new wristwatches - the Moon Phase Automatic and Lady Elegance – which demonstrate that even new product creations can have a timeless feel about them.

As a family-owned company, Aerowatch has been producing high-quality timepieces for over a century. Its longevity and independence – since 1910, to be specific - are a testament to the brand’s philosophy, especially in times of mergers, acquisitions, and the launch of new niche brands.

Currently headed by Denis Bolzli and his two sons, the family decided to diversify its collection in 2004. What resulted was a wide range of wristwatch lines for the first time in the brand’s history. Nevertheless, the transition to product differentiation today has been undertaken while at the same time remaining faithful to the classic lines of vintage models. Case in point are the two new timepieces from the Aerowatch 1942 collection.

The brand has just enriched its 1942 collection with a newly developed moon phase model. This newcomer displays the moon phases through an aperture at 10 o’clock, and features a blue, sun-brushed dial with baton-style hour markers. It displays the progression of time –which is the brand’s tag line - with a certain timeless elegance.

The 1942 Moon Phase Automatic is, of course, equipped with a self-winding, 26 jewel Dubois Dépraz movement, which is encased in 42mm of stainless steel. The movement is decorated in traditional Swiss watchmaking style, with perlage stippling on the bridges and the Côtes de Genève on the rhodium-plated oscillating weight.

Ever the classic watchmaker, Aerowatch also takes care of its fairer clientele. In this case, it comes through the Lady Elegance timepiece, which is also part of the signature 1942 Collection. The pièce de résistance of this wristwatch is an aperture in the white mother-of-pearl dial, which reveals the heart of the automatic ETA movement. This design feature brings the timepiece to life, adding to the feeling that it is a moving piece of art. As does the circular-grained ‘snailed’ movement, which also features the Côtes de Genève.

Measuring at only 35mm in diameter, the Lady Elegance is a good fit for the more feminine wrist, especially for those that enjoy unusual timepieces. Together with the larger and more classically-designed 1942 Moon Phase Automatic, Aerowatch has again demonstrated that broadening a historically narrow watch collection does not have to compromise a brand’s founding philosophy.
