They say that the first thing that gets noticed on a man are his shoes. While us watchmaking aficionados might beg to differ, you can’t go wrong by covering both bases: a fine pair of Italian leather shoes and a fine Swiss timepiece.

The idea behind Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph Berluti is something along those lines as well. The end result is the perfect package, according to Ricardo Guadalupe, the CEO of Hublot:

“With a coordinated style from wrist to toe, the modern gentleman is the epitome of elegance!”

In many ways, Hublot and Berluti have taken a similar path, albeit one is much longer than the other. Hublot, for instance, was founded by Italian Carlo Crocco in 1980 and the company is now owned by French giant LVMH.

Berluti, too, was founded by an Italian, Alessandro Berluti, but all the way back in 1895. The maison is now based in Paris and is known as one of the premier makers of men’s footwear, distinguished by its inventive patinated leathers.

The first line in the partnerships between Hublot and Berluti came about in 2016 with the launch of the Classic Fusion Berluti line to mark the shoemaker’s 120th anniversary.

The watch was defined by Berluti’s famous Venezia leather for both its strap and its dial. And that’s no small feat, considering that all of the moisture has to first be removed from the leather before it can be enclosed within the sapphire crystal.

One year later, and we have the second phase of the collaboration. This time Hublot decided to incorporate Berluti’s signature leather into its Classic Fusion chronograph. Being a chronograph, the task was somewhat more complex to execute than in the first model, with the need to accommodate for two counters at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock.

But the designers have fared quite well indeed, with the watch boasting a unique dial with that strong and distinctive leather look.

As you might expect, the watch is powered by the HUB1143 self-winding chronograph movement. The 280 component calibre hums at 4 Hz and delivers a decent power reserve of 42 hours.

The solid movement can be housed within two case options, available in a 45 mm 18k gold case in either the Scritto King Gold or Scritto All Black finish. Each model of the new Classic Fusion Chronograph Berluti is limited to 250 pieces, all of which are presented in fine a Berluti bespoke box.
