The cafe racer is a type of sports motorcycle that originated among British motorcycle enthusiasts in the late 1950s in London. The trend soon became a popular global subculture. Titoni’s latest timepiece revives a Felca model from that time.

T

his Bicompax Chronograph is Titoni’s latest creation for the Heritage series, inspired by the company’s long watchmaking history. The Bicompax 94020 with its visual minimalism is a modified cafe racer model based on the 1950s original. This modern retro edition comes with a pair of subdials: one register for the small second hand (at the 9 o’clock position), and one for the timed minutes (at the 3 o’clock position).

In the 1950s, cafe racers were standard production motorbikes that had been skilfully modified by their owners and optimised for speed and handling for quick rides over short distances. Today, cafe racers aren’t just about speed any more, they also carry an individual vintage style that oozes timeless cool. The typeface has a more modern style than the original Felca model from the 1950s.

The dial in this edition comes in two colour combinations: a black sunray dial with silver-coloured subdials or a silver sunray dial with black subdials. The indexes are bar-shaped, and thus less fancy than the Arabic numerals of the original. They are coated with Super-LumiNova, like the simply stylish hands. All of these elements shape the purist design of this modern-retro model. A further feature of this watch is the transparent case back that offers a fascinating view of the chronograph movement.
