Girard-Perregaux was established in 1791 and celebrated its 220th anniversary in 2011. Today the brand is part of the Sowind Group (owned by the French multinational PPR) and its CEO is Michele Sofisti, who also overseas Gucci watches, which is another PPR brand.
Constant Girard-Perregaux won a gold medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition in Paris for his tourbillon with three parallel bridges – a design which has been reproduced in Girard-Perregaux watches more recently.
In 2008 the brand presented its constant force escapement, which was revolutionary both in terms of its technology and the materials used. The Girard-Perregaux 1966 is one of the brand’s best-selling watches and saw a new design for its annual calendar and equation of time models in 2011.
