Feeling the “HYT” with the new H0

The technologically advanced watchmaker makes us wish for warmer weather with the release of the new “Feel the HYT” edition of the H0.

Winter seems to be hanging on longer this year, at least here at Europa Star HQ in Geneva, Switzerland. So with one eye on warmer weather, today we take a look at the latest timepiece by the Neuchâtel-based brand HYT.

It’s a new edition of the H0 called “Feel the Heat”, and it doesn’t take more than glance to see that the timepiece is all about exuding warmth. The fact that the new watch can only be found in the brand’s pop up store in Miami’s design district makes the heat motif all the more fitting.

Miami is hot and it is humid, but this watch won’t have a problem with either. It boasts a patented thermal compensator that ensures the liquid expansion caused by changing temperatures never affects the accuracy of timekeeping.

As ever with HYT watches, the time here is displayed by a unique capillary system, in this case filled with a fiery red colour, evoking the classic look of a thermometer. The system is powered by the brand’s exclusive mechanical manual winding caliber, which delivers up to 65-hour power reserve.

As fans of the brand might already be aware, the inspiration behind HYT’s concept of telling the time goes all the way back to ancient Egypt – which, they say, was also quite hot.

Around 3,400 years ago the Clepsydras were the clocks of the Pharaohs. These so-called “water thieves” transported water from one container to another to measure elapsed or “stolen” time. It was a clever way to actually visualize and quantify the passage of time, and to make each moment more tangible.

HYT brought back this water-based concept of keeping time in 2012, when it invented a wristwatch that integrated a patented fluid module.

The theme of this watch is not water but heat, and the rest of its construction is defined by warm tones. The case is made from 18k gold, meant to symbolize the heat radiating by the sun. And there is a lot of it to radiate - measuring in at 48.8mm in diameter and 18.7mm high, the case is certainly on the bulky side.

The gold opaline dial has engraved markers and numerals with white Super-LumiNova, just like the brushed and micro-blasted counters. Even the alligator pattern leather strap is in a bold red colour for this edition. The only “cool” aesthetic touches on the watch are the grey minute and second hands.

Just in case you forgot what watch you were wearing, “Feel the HYT” is also written across the three sub-dials in all capital letters. But as anyone that’s been to Miami will know, there is really no need to be reminded to feel the heat.
