De Bethune, wind it as you like

With its latest Big Power Super Sport, De Bethune is proposing a first—the ability to regulate the speed of the automatic winding system according to the wearer’s activities. Three positions can be chosen in keeping with what the wearer is doing. In the high pos-ition, corresponding to great physical activity, any risk of over-winding the spring motor is avoided. In the low position, on the other hand, which corresponds to inactivity or slight physical activity, minimum winding is assured so that the watch maintains correct operation. This multi-positional winding system involves the use of a titanium oscillating weight that pivots on ceramic ball bearings. The lightness of the titanium allows for an ideal inertia/mass ratio.
The modification of this automatic winding system occurs when a lever is activated by the winding crown (placed in its second position). This changes the speed ratio according to the quantity and the force of the movements generated by the wearer. The position of the winding ratio can be viewed on the dial as well as on the back of the watch. The device is placed in operation in a titanium plate that serves as a dial. The power reserve indicator is displayed in a window at 12 o’clock.

The Big Power Super Sport is also equipped with a new extra-flat balance spring (patented in 2004) made up of a curved spring that helps prevent the coils from becoming deformed due to shocks.
Impressive to say the least, this sculptural watch features a titanium case that is composed of three parts fastened together by titanium screws and nuts, as well as a screw-in crown that ensures water resistance to 500 metres.
