Eterna supports the classics

Europa Star WorldWatchWeb, 12 May 2006

The Swiss watch manufacturer Eterna is one of the patrons of the Salzburg Festival. The company thus remains true to its classical music tradition that began with its collaboration with Yehudi Menuhin in 1956.

Entirely within its traditions, Eterna has entered into a new partnership. The Swiss watch manufacturer joined the patrons of the Salzburg Festival at the beginning of the year. Through its support, Eterna makes a direct gift to the continuation of the Salzburg Festival and makes a valuable contribution to the success of the multi-week festival.

This festival is considered the largest and most important in the world. Everyone who is anyone in classical music – conductors, directors, singers, actors and world-class-virtuosos – put in an appearance at Salzburg in July and August. Almost 200 events take place during the festival. Over 230,000 visitors enjoy the high-quality performances. Almost two-thirds of the guests travel to Salzburg from more than 50 different countries.

“Eterna is proud to be a part of the festival at Salzburg. The two of us are linked by our striving for perfection and beauty. That this commitment falls in our 150th anniversary year is all the more joyful for this enterprise,†says C. Emanuel Bitton, Director Marketing & Sales. The origins of Eterna's passion for art and music began 50 years ago. When the world-famous violinist Yehudi Menuhin became the official ambassador for Eterna in 1956, it was the beginning of a long friendship between the watch manufacturer and classical music. Eterna is still a major supporter of the Menuhin Foundation in Grenchen, which helps young musicians get started on a professional career.

Since 1856, the name Eterna has stood for the manufacturing of high-quality mechanical watches. In its long history, Eterna has introduced many significant developments to the watch industry as one of its pioneers. Revolutionary innovations, such as the ball-bearing rotor or the first wristwatch with an alarm function, come from Eterna. This traditional Swiss brand today belongs to Ferdinand A. Porsche and is one of the last major manufacturers worldwide that is not part of one of the large groups. Eterna is the licensor for Porsche Design and thus responsible for the successful Porsche Design watch collection.
