It's time to look ahead to the best regional business venue for the watch and clock industry - the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair 2006. The world's largest timepiece fair is a truly international event, as shown by the fact that 44% of the 16,294 buyers who came to the 2005 fair were from outside Hong Kong. The last fair also saw strong representation from trade bodies worldwide, with 44 buying missions and over 1,300 representatives from major department stores, wholesale markets and associations attending the fair.
There was an optimistic mood throughout the 2005 fair, as reflected in the findings of a survey carried out by Oracle Value Added: 80% of the buyers and exhibitors interviewed expected the market outlook in 2006 to be better or the same as in 2005.
The Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair is increasingly becoming the key venue for industry players looking to expand their business into the Chinese mainland. Around 59% of exhibitors questioned were either currently selling to or planned to develop a market in the mainland. This dovetails with buyer intentions, as nearly 50% of buyers questioned were either currently doing business in China or intended to in the coming three years.
