Mondaine begins building new factory

June 2008

The iconic Mondaine Watch brand - offering the immediately identifiable official Swiss railway station clock design that is known around the world – has begun building an all-new state-of-the-art watch factory in Biberist, near its current facility in Solothurn, Switzerland.

The new workshops will be four times the size of the current plant, and will open in early 2009, if all goes according to plan. Assembly of the Mondaine brand, Luminox and Camel, as well as private label watches, will take place in a “clean room” built according to strict codes. Additionally, assembly of parts such as dials, hands LLT (Luminox Light Tubes) and other components will take place at this factory. Quality Control of parts and final product, storage of POP materials, displays and other products will also be in this building, as will distribution of watches, jewelry and materials to all international markets.

“Our company is on a path of solid growth and we take this step in spite of the proposed new IG Swiss Made law and the proposal of the FH to increase the percentage of Swiss content,” says Ronnie Bernheim, CEO of Mondaine Watch Ltd. “Mondaine certainly wishes to maintain a high level of physical and emotional quality. The proposed law does not enhance the quality, but it will increase prices and lead times. This new factory is an ambitious project that in the end will be a great benefit.”

Mondaine Watch Ltd. – creator of the official Swiss Railways Watch collection, licensed by the “Swiss Railways SBB” – launched just over 20 years ago. It represents the consumers’ version of the Swiss Railways Clock. In Switzerland, 3,000 of these famous Swiss clocks have indicated the precise time at all Swiss train stations for more than 60 years.
