Fortis Limited Edition Pit Stop – Jean Tinguely in Monaco

July 2008

Fantastic objects of Swiss artist Jean Tinguely are highlighting this year’s vintage car exhibition “Pit Stop” in the Mediterranean principality of Monaco during the summer season.

Fortis Swiss watch manufacturer’s contribution to this exhibition is a unique, limited watch edition of only 100 pieces. Both the worlds of watches and of motor sports are unified by the fascination of mechanics, as the premises are ultimate precision and reliability. Watch No. 01/100 will be donated to HSH The Prince Albert of Monaco.

Furthermore, the enthusiastic race fans will be confronted with 4 monumental sculptures in the premises of the Automobile Club of Monaco, allowing for a new perspective on the world of engines and machinery.

Fortis Spacematic Art Edition - Limited to 100 pieces
The mat, sandblasted steel case with sapphire crystal houses a Swiss automatic movement. The transparent crystal dial unveils a view insight into the mechanics of the watch and allows for the identification of the shock absorber, responsible for a trouble-free performance, the hour wheel and the quick setting date wheel. In the centre the dial contains the artists name and the name of his creation. A frame in bright red accentuates the relevant date. A technical device allows setting the time exact to the second or the use as a second stop function. The watch features a screw-down crown as well as a bolted case back and is tested on water resistance to 20 bar, corresponding to 200 meters.

The Swiss object artist Jean Tinguely
Jean Tinguely was a great fan of both motor sports and its pilots. The Tinguely Museum in Basel provided objects for the exhibition such as finds from the Monaco race course. In the history of arts, Jean Tinguely, through his machine-like sculptures, appertains to have made kinetic objects respectable.
