Nixon wins against counterfeiters

December 2010

This past August, investigators, along with Nixon and Puerto Rican officials, were successful in exposing and shutting down multiple counterfeit Nixon operations in Puerto Rico.

The unauthorized sellers of Nixon exposed during the investigation all had false Nixon products removed from the premises and were served suit for trademark violations.

“We will not tolerate any counterfeit Nixon products in the market,” stated Nixon co-founder and President, Andy Laats.

According to the investigation, many of the shops cited had dozens of imitation Nixon products for sale, and in at least one case, the retailer was aware that the products were not authorized Nixon products.

Nixon is committed to the fight against false products and actively discourages it by uniquely marking each watch in a proprietary way.

“Nixon will continue to fight against counterfeit product reaching any level of existence,” echoed Chad DiNenna, co-founder and Marketing Director of the brand. “And with respect to trademark rights, we will continue to aggressively protect Nixon.”

According to the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition, a nonprofit based in Washington, the worldwide trade in counterfeit goods amounts to about $600 billion a year. In the U.S. alone last year, Customs and Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement seized $260 million worth of counterfeit products.
