Although IWC clearly placed its focus on the Ingenieur line at this year’s SIHH, the legendary Portuguese collection, which arose from the demands of two Portuguese watch dealers in the 1930s, has by no means been neglected with the launch of two new models in the collection: A second chronograph and a new hand-wound tourbillon.

The Portuguese Chronograph Classic (Ref. 3904) recalls the heritage of the original models from the 1930s, with applied Arabic numerals and a railway-track minute scale housed in a 42mm diameter case that is available in stainless steel or 18-carat red gold. It is powered by the IWC manufacture calibre 89361, which has a power reserve of 68 hours, displays the elapsed hours and minutes on a single sub-dial at 12 o’clock and is visible through a transparent sapphire crystal case back.

The Portuguese Tourbillon Hand-Wound (Ref. 5463) is available exclusively in red or white gold and is fitted with the 98900 calibre movement, a member of the 98000 calibre family that has been in production since the 1920s. For the hand-wound version of the tourbillon, its frequency has been increased to 28,800 vibrations per hour for a power reserve of 54 hours.

Both of these new models are fitted with a new front sapphire crystal with arched edges that give a flatter look to the watch.
