It with undiminished pleasure and fervour that Vacheron Contantin is renewing its support for the French Institut National des Métiers d’Art as patron of the 2013 edition of its European Artistic Crafts Days.

The commitment shown by the House to extending the influence of artistic crafts will be fully expressed during the European Artistic Crafts Days in France, as well as on the occasion of events organised in Milan, London and Geneva.

Founded in 1755 at the heart of Geneva, Vacheron Constantin is the world’s oldest watch manufacturer to have maintained an uninterrupted tradition of exercising artistic crafts for over 250 years. Through its participation and its support for numerous exhibitions around the world, Vacheron Constantin pursues its efforts to preserve and ensure recognition of artistic crafts. The underlying purpose is to initiate the public at large and to enable them to become acquainted with these crafts, as well as inspiring future vocations.

For the first time in London, in partnership with Walpole, a not-for-profit organisation in the United Kingdom that plays a benchmark role in promoting the excellence of British luxury, place is given to artisans and their generosity in passing on values and exercising ancestral skills. Vacheron Constantin is supporting an exhibition at Somerset House, “Crafted – Makers of the Exceptional”, that will highlight the excellence of artistic crafts.

In France, in partnership with the Institut National des Métiers d’Art, Vacheron Constantin will in particular be supporting the exhibition held in the Palais de Tokyo in Paris on the theme “Le temps de la creation” in order to demonstrate that artistic crafts are very much part of modern times.

In Milan, in partnership with the Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte, Vacheron Constantin invites passionate enthusiasts and novices to Superstudio 13 for an exhibition titled “Arts & Crafts & Design – Time according to Alessandro Mendini and his Artisans” – dreamed up by one of the most eminent Italian designers and which establishes an unprecedented dialogue between design and artistic crafts on the theme of Time, as well as revealing that these crafts firmly belong to the contemporary design scene.

Finally, in Geneva, in partnership with the municipal authorities, 10 cultural institutions explore the theme “L’envers du décor” by unveiling what goes on behind the scenes and inviting the public to engage in a dialogue with the talented individuals who exercise artistic crafts. Vacheron Constantin will in particular be supporting the exhibition at the Geneva Art and History Museum that will highlight the creations and demonstrations by these institutions.

Each of these events is an important venue featuring a blend of meticulous care, impeccable precision, superlative excellence and timeless beauty. They offer a unique opportunity to become more keenly aware of a proud heritage that must be preserved at all costs, as well as of imagining every possible means of keeping it vibrantly alive in tune with the codes of contemporary society.
