Omega and the United Nations presented Planet Ocean, a landmark documentary about the state of the world’s oceans directed by acclaimed environmentalist and artist Yann Arthus-Bertrand.

The event, which marked the film’s debut in New York, was hosted at the United Nations headquarters by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, President of Omega Stephen Urquhart, the film’s director and U.N. Goodwill Ambassador Yann Arthus-Bertrand and codirector Michael Pitiot.

Addressing the audience, Ban Ki-moon said, “In Planet Ocean, Yann reveals the mysteries of the seas and sounds a warning about the urgent need to protect.”

Yann Arthus-Bertrand said of his partnership with Omega, “When Omega presented me with the Planet Ocean project, I accepted almost immediately; it was time to look at things directly, to illustrate and to denounce the dangers threatening our oceans and therefore our planet. This documentary is not intended to moralize, but rather to raise consciousness.”

Planet Ocean, narrated by actor Josh Duhamel, uses incredible aerial and underwater photography to illustrate the dangers that threaten our oceans and the entire planet. It has been created to change the way people look at the oceans and encourages them to imagine conservation as a globally shared responsibility. Planet Ocean also serves as a reminder of the bond between humans and nature and the duty that exists to protect and respect our planet.

“Yann’s unique combination of skills has allowed him to capture and communicate the majesty and the beauty of the oceans cinematically,” said President of Omega Stephen Urquhart. “We are proud to be a part of this remarkable project and to have supported a film that shows how every man, woman and child can help contribute to the health of the oceans that are, in effect, the source of all life on Earth.

Since its premiere at the Rio+20 Earth Summit in 2012, the 90-minute eco-documentary Planet Ocean has intrigued audiences at events all around the world.

Planet Ocean is available on both Blu-ray and DVD from Universal Studios Home Entertainment and includes dazzling behind-the-scenes bonus features showcasing the groundbreaking cinematography that brought this stunning documentary to life.

The production of Planet Ocean was made possible through Omega’s contribution and partnership with GoodPlanet Foundation.
