In November 2015, Hublot will unveil a unique new Classic Fusion timepiece for the Watch Only auction, created in partnership with Brazilian artist Romero Britto. The name of the wristwatch? It’s called the Classic Fusion Only Watch Britto, of course.

As the name suggests, the inspiration behind this watch is making unique fusions. For example, the watch combines the traditional art of enamelling with the contemporary pop art and cubism of artist Romero Britto. His style evokes joy through the use of bright colours and patterns, which seem infinite in their combination and variation. And for the true Hublot aficionados out there, you might remember Britto from his earlier collaboration with the brand; he created the iconic multi-coloured football for the World Cup in Brazil.

The dial design is guided by the vibrantly coloured work of art by Britto, which is reproduced to exact scale and brought out perfectly by the meticulously applied champlevé enamel. The dial is struck with white gold, on which a master enameller applied thin layers of the powder enamel, adding 6 opaque colours from the 250 shades in his palette, one by one.

The end result is a truly unique and eye-catching timepiece, that is also a work of art itself. It demonstrates the fusion between tradition and modernity, between historical craftsmanship and modern pop art.

The 6th edition of the Only Watch auction – a charity event organized by the Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophy - will take place on 7 November, 2015. The one-off piece will be on auction there, but the winning bidder won’t only receive the wristwatch. He or she will also win the canvas that inspired it, a first in the auction’s history.

Until then, the watch will go on a bit of a world tour. From 23 September, the Only Watch 2015 can be seen at various exhibitions, before landing in Geneva for the auction. All of the money raised will be donated to fund medical research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. (VJ)
