The new timepiece by the turtle-shelled brand delivers quality and reliability that is always ready for action. True to its historical roots, this is another example of Certina doing what it does best, and doing it well within its comfort zone.

Certina has a long-standing commitment to sport. In fact, the Swatch Group subsidiary is currently the world’s leading brand in the sport watch segment priced between CHF 300 and CHF 2,000. So when it comes to sport watches, we expect a lot from the brand recognized by its distinctive turtle shell logo.

And here we have the new, Certina DS Action. It features many sporty attributes, which are enhanced by the accuracy of its cutting-edge Precidrive movement. Retailing at around CHF 615 in Switzerland and £ 470 in the UK, this watch slots in nicely within the brand’s “bread and butter” price range, where it has excelled over the years.

As expected, multiple safety features make the DS Action especially well-suited to demanding environments. Indeed, since its foundation in 1888 by the Kurth Brothers, reliability and precision have underlined the Certina philosophy. In 1959, the brand developed its famous Double Security – or “DS” - Concept, to bring to its watches exceptional sturdiness and outstanding water resistance. A screw-on case back, a protected screw-in crown and water-resistance up to 300 m also add to the DS Action’s durability.

The brushed stainless-steel model is a comfortable fit for men, but at 41 mm, it can be slightly oversized for the ladies. On the case’s broad platform rests a large unidirectional bezel, which sports highly-visible numerals and Superluminova markings in the 12 to 3 o’clock quadrant. Its bezel, oversized indices and skeletonised hands make reading the time a quick and easy task under all conditions.

Additional Superluminova has been applied to the skeletonised HM hands, red-tipped central second hand, large dots at each five-minute mark and inside the bold triangular indices at 12, 6 and 9 o’clock, to ensure optimal underwater readability. Behind a sapphire crystal treated with anti-reflective coating on both faces, the black dial carries a date window conveniently placed at 3 o’clock.

Other versions of the DS Action are also available to match the preferences of every customer, both male and female. Options include a three-row stainless-steel bracelet version, another in full titanium, and a model with a rubber strap.
