February 2016

With Valentine’s Day coming in a few days, you should have figured out what presents to buy for your significant other by now. In case you’re a last minute shopper – not unlike me – here are the watches that have caught our eye to celebrate the special day, for both guys and gals.

A watch makes a great present for any occasion. Valentine’s Day is no different, because an elegant luxury timepiece can be the perfect representation of timeless love. Many of the brands have been busy preparing for the season of love, and here are the standout performers, which can also add a bit of romance on February 14th.

Blancpain Ladybird

Blancpain launched a limited edition version of its iconic Ladybird model for Valentine’s Day this year. First created in 1956, Ladybird was named as the world’s smallest round watch at the time of its launch, and the series ticks on to date.

The new edition of the timepiece – the Ladybird Saint Valentine’s Day 2016 model – features a 21.5 mm-diameter white gold case lit up by a bezel set with 0.5-carat diamonds, a mother-of-pearl dial adorned with brilliant-cut diamonds and a mother-of-pearl marquetry heart with rubies and diamonds on the face of the watch. Front and centre is a white gold charm picturing a heart pierced by an arrow, made out of rubies and diamonds. The charm can be displayed on the watch at either 12 o’clock or 6 o’clock.

Beneath the classy exterior is the self-winding 6150 movement, which is among one of the smallest in the world. The heart of the watch is equipped with a modern silicon balance-spring, ensuring the longevity of the 99-piece limited edition timepiece.

Parrelet Diamond Flower Collection

Another serious mechanical ladies’ watch that can impress your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day might just come from the Parrelet Diamond Flower Collection. The collection boasts a double rotor that sweeps across a sunburst motif on the dial, which also has four Roman numeral markers and six petal hour markers, three of which are set in diamond. Certain models showcase a fair amount of bling, with a diamond-set bezel option, and a case made from rose gold.

Harry Winston Midnight Diamond Stalactites

The House of Harry Winston continues to melt women’s hearts, but this time it’s not because of brand ambassador Robin Thicke. The brand has introduced its new Midnight Diamond Stalactites Automatic 36mm timepiece just in time for Valentine’s Day, featuring an updated motif to one of its most iconic timepiece collections.

The watches have an exquisite array of diamonds, pink sapphires and rubies, which are set against an ever-changing mother-of-pearl dial. The design is inspired by icicle-shaped formations found only in nature, which enhance the inherent brilliance and beauty of the watch.

Similar to the Blancpain model, this watch is driven by a mechanical movement and a silicon balance-spring, which ensures extraordinary precision. The open case back and skeletonized 18k rose gold oscillating weight also reveal the exclusive circular Côtes de Genève finishes; a watch that bears everything it has.

The Bradley, something for her and him

Watches are still mostly a man’s game, although brand’s are slowly balancing out their collections. But Valentine’s Day is usually when ladies’ watches outshine men’s offerings. But instead of stratifying its consumer base, Bradley has released a unisex timepiece that would make a great companion for anyone on Valentine’s Day.

If you’ve ever been accused of checking the time during a romantic date, the Bradley offers a new way to check the time discreetly. With this watch, you can literally feel the hours and minutes slowly passing by, thanks to ball bearings and raised hour and minute markers. Coming in at about $300 dollars, this might not be the flashiest watch among our Valentine’s Day selection, but it might just be the most intimate one, especially when telling the time is in question.
