In an homage to nature, the German watchmaker releases yet another work of art within its ladies’ collection, this time in harmonious winter colours.

This summer has been a hot one across the board, which is why the ladies’ watch “Winter” by Alexander Shorokhoff caught my eye. The new timepiece by the German watchmaker is cool and refreshing at first sight, which makes it a welcome contrasting addition to any summer look.

The Winter was conceived to draw attention to climate changes and global warming, and the potential and inalienability of an intense winter. The line was first presented at Baselwrold 2016, and for that year it was the brand’s best seller.

Just by looking it at, it’s not hard to figure out why that was. And at first sight it becomes clear that the watchmaker is breaking with traditional watchmaking.

The entire surface of the watch is covered by diamond dust, giving life to ice and snowy tree branches. The effect is achieved by the diamond powder which is applied in an innovative treatment to a three-dimensional plate. Only spin-off products from the cutting of diamonds are used to make the powder used on the dial (sustainability and making use of every resource is always important).

Despite its intricate art-like dial, the time can be easily read thanks to the high-quality blued hands that pair well with the winter colours of the dial. The colourway is matched further with the dark blue strap of stingray leather, resulting is a harmonious overall package.

It is all wrapped up in a well-sized stainless steel case that protects an automatic 2824 ETA movement. Its beautifully hand engraved rotor can also be admired through the case back.

The Witner line has impressed in its short existence, and it has not been just a fan favourite. In fact, the high-profile international members of the German Council of Design were impressed, as well - the watch earned the “Special Mention“ prize once again this year.

Overall, then, the Winter is simply one more in a line of excellent timepieces by the German watchmaker released this year to mark its quarter century anniversary. And as ever, this timepiece also embodies the brand philosophy of producing timepieces that give that feeling of wearing (cool) art on one’s wrist.
