The grande maison unveils a new limited edition of the “watch with many faces”, this time with slate grey and white dials, and paired with an Argentinian Casa Fagliano strap.

If you ask any watch aficionado about their shortlist of “iconic” timepieces, I bet that 9 out of 10 of them will have the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso on their list. First introduced in 1931 and still carrying the art deco style, the watch was a revelation when it hit the market.

The innovative swivel watch offered something unique in terms of its dual face design and in robustness, and it continues to do so as it approaches its centenary. The Reverso has worn many faces over the years, and now we have another model for the fans of the iconic watch line.

As the Swiss watchmaker continues its partnership with Argentinian bootmakers Casa Fagliano, a Reverso Tribute Duoface has been issued in a new limited edition of 100 pieces.

Sold exclusively in Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques, the watch is of course based on the famous Duoface concept, with two contrasting dial. On the one side we have a refined slate grey sunray dial with hand-applied hour markers and dauphine hands.

Again, the watch is all about the art deco influence, with a seconds subdial and a round minute track softening the otherwise geometric look of the 18 carat pink gold case, which measures 49.4 x 29.9 mm.

On the other side of the watch, the local time is displayed on a silvered dial sporting two finishes – a Clous de Paris guilloché in the background and an opaline finish at the centre.

On the inside, we have the manually wound mechanical in-house Calibre 854/2. The solid 167 part movement hums at 21,600 vibrations per hour and delivers up to 42 hours of power reserve.

The added value of the brand’s partnership with Casa Fagliano – and indeed this particular watch - is a two-tone cordovan leather strap. It has has been specially designed and hand-crafted for each piece by the craftsmen of one of Argentina’s greatest bootmakers, making each piece a one-off.

What I really admire about the Reverso is that it is a design that allows for constant change, yet at the same time it remains true to its fundamentals. The Reverso Tribute Duoface on a Casa Fagliano strap is a great example of that.

I just wonder whether Jacques-David LeCoultre and César de Trey had any idea that their watch would reach such an iconic status, taking on many different faces and becoming one of the models of timeless watchmaking for over 80 years and counting.
