BaselWorld: Hong Kong commits to longterm relationship
The Hong Kong Trade and Development Council (HKTDC) and MCH Basel Exhibition Ltd, Show organiser of BASELWORLD, signed a landmark contract to secure Hong Kong's commitment to the world's Number one watch and jewellery show.
The agreement, co-signed by Frederick Lam, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, and RenÉ Kamm, MCH Swiss Exhibition Ltd Chief Executive Officer, marks the beginning of a new relationship and partnership between Hong Kong and BASELWORLD. It confirms Hong Kong Pavilion's guaranteed participation for the next six Shows from 2004 to 2009 with a net exhibition space of 6,500 square metres within the new Hall of Universe.

As announced in July of this year, the Hall of Universe is to be relocated to a newly renovated exhibition hall located a short walking distance from the Basel Exhibition Square. The conversion and redesigning of the warehouse complex, which will house this new Hall 6 is progressing well and the project will be completed in record time ready for BASELWORLD 2004 (April 15-22, 2004). The extension of the exhibition infrastructure in Basel, which represents a huge investment for MCH, underlines the company's ongoing commitment and dedication to the Country Pavilion exhibitors.

Hall 6 will be used for only eight days a year during the BASELWORLD Show and will exclusively host the Hall of Universe which includes all of the international pavilions that previously exhibited in Zurich. These pavilions will be accommodated in a fully-integrated booth construction, presented under the concept of Seven Worlds - the Americas, Europe, Hong Kong, India, Thailand, other Far East Countries and Middle East. The Hall, with its uniquely designed interior, will be of unparalleled quality and this will further enhance the awareness and perception of the international pavilions at BASELWORLD.

RenÉ Kamm comments, “The Hall of Universe next year will be a special attraction and focal point for the buyers coming from more than 100 countries to Basel.”

The Show Management has discussed plans for Hall 6 extensively with the Country Pavilion representatives and feedback has been extremely positive. All have agreed in principle to exhibit at the next six Shows from 2004 to 2009, representing the start of a new long-term relationship between BASELWORLD and these international exhibitors.
