All eyes are on the upcoming trade fairs in the second half of the year, following lifting of the World health Organisation's travel advisory against Hong Kong. A highlight is the Hong Kong Watch and Clock Fair, the premier show for the industry.

In 2002, over 14.500 trade buyers attended this show and among them were key VIP buyers from large retail chains and importers in Europe and the US. This year, around 700 exhibitors are expected to take part in this annual golden occasion with representatives from the Chinese mainland, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the UAE, and more. Industry leaders should definitely find this their best sourcing hub.

According to Ms Anne Chick, Senior Exhibitions Manager at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, this year's fair is crucial to the industry. 'Many Hong Kong companies were unable to participate in the Basel Fair earlier this year due to SARS, so this fair will be the best opportunity for them to catch up with international buyers,' she said. 'We are delighted to learn that overseas exhibitors and buyers are showing support for this event.'

Further widening the choice for buyers, the BRAND NAME GALLERY will again showcase fine fashion labels as well as licensed and original brands. In addition, there will be a wide range of exhibits from wich buyers can choose, including mechanical, LCD, quartz analogue and digital analogue watches, quartz clocks, electronic and electrical clocks, parts and components, packaging and publications.

In another dimension, the fair contributes market intelligence and opportunities to the industry by holding informative meetings and a conference. The Asian Watch Industry Conference will disclose the latest on Asia's watch scene, while the Business Matching Meetings provide a forum for fashion label representatives to meet with manufacturers to discuss further opportunities to develop branded watch lines.

Running alongside this fair is the Hong Kong Watch and Clock Design Competition , which portrays the flair of talented local designers and students. And there will be mini watch parades running every day to add more spice to the Fair.
