This watchmaking project, co-founded by Simon Husslein and Pierre Nobs, both with a broad experience in the world of industrial design and which has almost doubled its funding objective on the Kickstarter platform, has a very clear objective according to its founders:
“Our vision was to create a new breed of watch. One that matches our perception of architectural design and functionality. So intelligently conceived that it can be manufactured 100% in Switzerland at a completely un-Swiss price.”
The Black Edition Bólido project began with the movement, as any serious timepiece should.
Movements are micro-engines of extraordinary complexity and precision with their own technical aesthetic. Some purist timepiece collectors therefore asked manufacturers to remove the dials of their timepiece to reveal the beauty within. A few highly motivated Swiss artisans went even further, to ‘skeletonise’ the bridges and solid covers and completely expose the movement’s operation. It takes great skill, serenity and steady, unhurried hands to create such intricate mechanisms.
But in Bólido Watch Sàrl they wanted to go one step further...
“We challenged our watchmakers to make our beautifully sculpted skeleton movement even bolder and they came up with this mean-looking black beauty.”
“Our vision was to create a new breed of watch. One that matches our perception of architectural design and functionality. So intelligently conceived that it can be manufactured 100% in Switzerland at a completely un-Swiss price”
While the ‘Bólido core’ skeleton movement is in itself an artful process of elimination, we also decided against using the kind of ‘run-of-the-mill nostalgic’ case associated with skeleton watches. A Bólido has to be bold and contemporary; we call it ‘micro-architectural design’. It showcases the perfect proportions and purity of manufacturing and function.
Thus the new Bólido Black Edition uses the original case design that just received the coveted global Red Dot Design Award 2018.
The Bólido comes in three versions: Core, Pure and Halo that will go on sale at a price of 990 CHF the first and 690 CHF versions with Pure/Halo dial. However until the end of this month has the opportunity to get one of them with a succulent discount through its campaign on Kickstarter.
The Bólido quality guarantees a surgical-grade stainless steel case, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, water resistance up to 100 m (each watch is tested before shipment), exclusive natural rubber strap, adjustable steel folding buckle in stainless, Swiss mechanical automatic movement regulated in 5 positions and 44 hours of power reserve and two years of world garantee.
Bólido watches fit almost every wrist size, even very small ones. This is because the distance between the axes of the two spring bars that hold the band ends underneath the case is only 32mm. Regular gentlemen’s watches of comparable size have a typical spring bar axis distance of 42mm or more.
