Milus: introducing the Snow Star “Ice Blue”

Originally created in the 1940s, the Milus Snow Star was designed for US Navy pilots, who carried a box containing a Milus watch and other precious objects to help them survive if forced to land in unknown territories. The reissue of this masterpiece channels the spirit of the original Snow Star.

W

hen it was created in the 1940s, Milus’ Snow Star offered a dimension of exchange value, in addition to its vocation for precision and resistance in extreme environments. Irradiating its former values, the new Snow Star timepiece uses one of the most resistant steels, 904L, to assert its strength.

Its blue colour symbolizes the path of light travelling through ice-the longer the path, the more blue it appears. The depth of the “Ice Blue” sun brushed dial meets the desirable oblong shape of the 39mm stainless-steel case – shining thanks to its mirror polished finishing - water resistant up to 10 ATM topped by a curved sapphire glass with inner antireflective coating.

While two rhodium-plated and diamond-shaped brushed Dauphine hands linger on the applied hour and minute hour-markers, a brilliant stroke of red to the 3 o’clock date counter sharpens its character.

The Ice blue Snow Star is a versatile watch that does not hide its luxurious side and the ETA 2892 automatic movement in its top-grade version, a watchmaker’s jewel, gives the watch an ultimate sense of nobility and exclusivity.

The model is offered with an easily interchangeable grey leather strap made from a high quality calfskin that sits precisely between an elegant, dressy finish and a more vintage, distressed look. The dusty, almost pastel color is coupled with matching stitching, which creates an exceedingly versatile strap.

History and legends are today for Milus territories of inspiration, and imagining that US Navy pilots were able to save their lives with the Snow Star only, brings lasting emotion and pride to Milus and its crew. Items in the box were dedicated to help in their negotiations for information, their freedom, or their lives. Choosing a Milus object as a potential bartering item demonstrates the level of technical and aesthetic appreciation of the Swiss brand all over the world.

Today, Milus salutes and honors these young pilots, almost forgotten with the passage of time, whose incredible stories were ironically brought back to light by a Swiss watch which was it their pocket more than 70 years ago. The reissue of this masterpiece channels the spirit of the original Snow Star.
