Cartier was founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier as a jewellery house. The company started manufacturing watches from 1874, when Louis-François Cartier’s son Alfred took over the business. The company produced one of the first-ever wristwatches, especially for famous aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, in 1904. The Santos model is still produced by Cartier and is a best-seller. In more recent times, the company has developed its own in-house manufacturing capabilities and now produces its own movements such as the 1904 MC manufacture movement found in the Calibre de Cartier watch.
