Urwerk presented two new models during the week of the Geneva shows. Europa Star previewed one of these – the futuristic “Zeit Device” pocket watch – with a detailed explanation in the current issue.

The second model is a red-gold version of the UR-110 with the brand’s familiar hour satellite arrangement displaying the time along a minute scale down the right-hand side of the case.

A red gold screw-on bezel gives an added touch of luxury to the otherwise highly technical titanium case of the “Best Design Watch” from the 2011 Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie. Urwerk co-founders Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei both consider that an Urwerk collection is not complete until there is a gold reference in it.

“We are known for complications that require cutting-edge high-performance materials,” says Baumgartner, “yet gold has always been one of our favourite materials.”

“All of cour collections feature a version crafted in this noble metal, from the very first UR-101 to the UR-110.”

The UR-110 has a case in grade 5 titanium, measuring 51mm x 47mm x 16mm with a bezel in red gold and is fitted with the UR9.01 self-winding mechanical movement with a 39-hour power reserve. In addition to the unique hour and minute indications, the watch also features a small seconds sub-dial, a day/night indicator and an oil change service interval indicator.
