ce Jewelers and Nivada Grenchen are proud to to introduce the Super Antarctic Polar wristwatch. This exclusive timepiece promises to captivate watch enthusiasts and collectors with its distinctive design and impeccable craftsmanship.
Launched in the mid-1950s, the original Nivada Grenchen Antarctic gained renown when it accompanied the Operation Deep Freeze 1 mission to the South Pole in 1955/56. The Ace Jewelers Super Antarctic Limited Edition pays homage to Nivada Grenchen’s flagship model, celebrating its legacy as essential equipment in polar expeditions. This watch seamlessly merges Nivada Grenchen’s expertise with Ace Jewelers’ discerning taste and watch curation skills, resulting in a watch that is both cool as ice as well as a fitting tribute to an underrated classic.
Drawing inspiration from the pristine beauty of the polar regions, the design features a pristine white dial reminiscent of ice-covered landscapes. The addition of a vibrant orange seconds hand, a nod to Arctic exploration gear and also the Dutch national color, adds a touch of flair. Notably, this marks the first instance of the Super Antarctic featuring a white dial, making this limited edition truly distinctive.
“Being longtime admirers of Nivada Grenchen, we were thrilled when Guillaume and his teams successfully revitalised the brand,” says Alon Ben Joseph, CEO of Ace Jewelers. “Impressed by their accomplishments, we eagerly sought to establish an exclusive retail partnership for the Netherlands and proposed an exciting collaboration. The enthusiasm within Team Ace was palpable, with a multitude of ideas buzzing around. Despite having concepts for 10 more collaborations, we chose the principle of”less is more“for our inaugural collaboration, paying homage to one of the most iconic explorer watches ever created.”
The Ace x Nivada Grenchen Super Antarctic Polar draws inspiration from the Super Antarctic 32025A template. Departing from the standard production version’s matte black with white print, this unique edition embraces its polar opposite: a clean, matte white background adorned with contrasting black print. The bright orange second hand not only adds a vibrant touch, but also pays homage to the color commonly associated with high-visibility Arctic exploration gear. For example, the British Antarctic Survey, the United Kingdom’s leading polar research institute, employs orange for its fleet of De Haviland airplanes, its standard-issue jackets, and more. With Ace Jewelers hailing from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, it also doesn’t hurt that orange is the Dutch national color.
“Alon and I initially connected through his podcast series, The Real Time Show, and our friendship quickly blossomed from there. This laid the groundwork for discussions about a collaboration with Ace Jewelers. With a swift and unanimous decision, we agreed that the watch should incorporate some orange elements as a tribute to the Netherlands. Our in-person meeting in Geneva during Watches & Wonders this year solidified the idea, and we collectively finalised the concept for a Polar edition as a fitting tribute,” says Guillaume Ladet, CEO of Nivada Grenchen.
