An introduction to Hamilton's new Khaki Aviation Pilot

The new collection introduces seven references, continuing the brand’s 100-year tradition of elevating aviation watches for professional pilots, aeronautics enthusiasts, and adventurers to new heights.

F

or over a century, pilots have trusted Hamilton watches in the cockpit. In 1918, Hamilton watches were chosen to time the first U.S. Airmail flight between New York and Washington, D.C. and Hamilton timepieces have remained at the forefront of cutting-edge aviation ever since.

With the launch of seven new references in the Khaki Aviation Pilot collection, the brand combines its legacy of timing the skies with a passion for adventure. Crafted for true aviation lovers and the perfect companion to a well-worn leather flight jacket and pair of aviators, the collection evokes the spirit of exploration and adventure of the Khaki.

Rugged yet technical and reliable, each reference is powered by the H-10 automatic movement with an 80-hour power reserve and Nivachron balance spring. For quick, constant legibility no matter the light, the hour and minute hands are treated with a radiant Grade X1 Swiss Super-LumiNova coating. The Grade X1 formula is the latest and highest performing coating, renowned for its sustained luminosity. Meanwhile, the numbers on the dial are enlarged for quick-glance readability.

While the series is inspired by the sky, it is built for everyday adventures. After all, this is still the Khaki. Excursions don’t always follow neatly laid out plans, so each reference is water-resistant up to 10 bar (100 meters).

The Khaki Aviation Pilot collection includes four 36 mm references and three 42 mm references. The collection marks a departure from the status quo in aviation timepieces towards timepieces made for daily wear. While up to the standards of precision for the cockpit, these more compact designs lend themselves to life in the skies and on terra firma.

For the 36 mm references, a timeless stainless-steel bracelet is paired with a black or midnight blue dial, reminiscent of the view of clear sky from the flight deck. A white leather strap paired with a silver white dial evokes endless clouds. The rose leather strap alongside a midnight blue dial housed in a rose gold PVD case represents the pilot’s view of the contrast between first light and darkness.

The three well-proportioned 42 mm references include a day-date window, and nickeled hour and second hands. A stainless-steel bracelet paired with a rich blue dial conjures the possibilities of clear, open skies. The timeless aviation-inspired combination of light leather with a silver dial calls to mind the early days of precision flying, while the pairing of dark leather and a green dial pays homage to the Khaki’s adventurous outdoor roots.
