Antiquorum sells the biggest Collection of modern Wristwatches ever assembled - Geneva Auction

Following the big success of its last thematic auction in New York, Antiquorum obtained an excellent result of CHF 10,418,180 with “The Collection of a European Nobleman”.

The catalogue was comprising of 705 lots representing the most important collection of modern wristwatches ever appeared on the market. It realized sales of 88 % by lot and 112% by value.

The May sale was held at the hotel Le Richemond where the collectors in the room were competing against the high record of over 500 registered on - line and an exceptional amount of telephone bidders. Strong international participation came especially from Spain, Netherlands, Singapore, United States and Hong Kong. Thanks to Antiquorum on - line system, the impressive percentage of 36% of lots was sold on the internet.

Excellent prices were achieved by several brands, such as F. P. Journe with lot 705, the Grande et Petite Sonnerie - Répétition Minutes, which obtained the exceptional result of CHF 509,400 and lot 67, the Tourbillon Seconde Morte sold for CHF 90,000.

Lange & Söhne did very well too with lot 53 sold for CHF 173,100 and lot 33 sold for CHF 90,000.

The two “Royal Oak Offshore, Rubens Barrichello II” in platinum and pink gold (lots 9 & 266) raised a lot of interest and reached the total sum of CHF 174,000.

Other highlights of the sale were lots 75, the Gyrotourbillon 1 Jaeger-LeCoultre and the Vacheron Constantin Saint-Gervais (lot 74) that both sold for CHF 415,000.

Patek Philippe obtained very good results with the 10 Day Tourbillon (lot 52) acquired for CHF 247,440, the Ref. 5250G, Limited Edition (lot 147) sold for CHF 114,000, the Ref. 3970 EJ, Yellow Gold (lot 347) and the Ref. 5125, Wempe 125th Anniversary (lot 15) which sold for CHF 102,000.

Julien Schaerer, auctioneer of the sale, said:“The enthusiasm generated by this sale was the proof the collectors that carefully manage their watch portfolio are rewarded at auction. Dominated by this tendency Lange & Söhne, Patek Philippe and F.P. Journe brought solid results on par with the strength still present on the watch market”.
