Patek Philippe to hold U.S. exhibit

April 2008

Swiss watchmaker Patek Philippe has announced a two-city exhibition titled “The Values of a Family Watch Company,” which will arrive in the United States in April.

The exhibition will showcase the 169-year history of Patek Philippe and reveal the most complete and comprehensive set of its timepieces ever showcased outside of Switzerland.

The three-day exhibition will open in New York City on April 24 at the Tiffany and Co. flagship store on Fifth Avenue on the fifth floor.

The exhibition will encompass more than 4,000 square feet of space that will feature roughly 400 timepieces, many of which will travel outside of the Patek Philippe museum in Switzerland for the very first time.

The timepieces will include a selection of rare movements, grand complications, specialty watches such as minute repeaters, enameled dome clocks and the U.S. premiere of the 2008 Basel Collection.

Among the prestigious timepieces to be featured include the Star Caliber 2000, a pocket watch created to mark the millennium that combines 21 complications with six patented inventions; the First Swiss Wristwatch, which features a key-winding and hand-setting system; and “La Madonna della Sedia,” a pocket watch manufactured in 1850, highlighting enamel work by renowned artist Gaspard Lamuniere.

From New York, the exhibition will travel to Beverly Hills, Calif., where it will be staged at the Beverly Wilshire from May 16-18.

“The exhibit is about sharing the Stern family's passion and values for watchmaking and its devotion to horological preservation with watch enthusiasts around the world,” Patek Philippe USA President Larry Pettinelli said in a media release. “As the single largest world market for Patek Philippe timepieces, we are pleased to share this unprecedented experience with the dynamic cities of New York and Beverly Hills.”
