“La Maison de Louis Moinet” has officially opened in Saint-Blaise (Neuchâtel, Switzerland), in an historical 18th century premises. Built from the famous Hauterive yellow-coloured stone typical of the Neuchâtel region, it now accommodates the full

This splendid building was home to a bank for many years, and its character has been faithfully preserved. This legacy includes a few original touches such as a high-security desk protecting the sales administration, as well as a treasury comprising spacious safes that now house the brand’s masterpieces.

A meeting room provides a tranquil setting in which to welcome visitors. It houses the private collection of Traités d’Horlogerie (1848) by Louis Moinet, as well as several other original documents. The renowned Parisian watchmaker Louis Moinet (1768-1853) travelled Neuchâtel, where he cultivated ties with other great watchmak¬ers of the era, including in particular Jacques-Frédéric Houriet.

Louis Moinet was both an eminent watchmaker and a born pioneer, a state of mind expressed in many of his statements as President of the Société de Chronométrie de Paris. “A true artist cannot lag behind his times”; “the goal of horology is to produce an excellent and curious effect”; “it is essential not to depart from authenticity”.

Today, Les Ateliers Louis Moinet offers a contemporary vision of these same principles. As an independent company, it works in close cooperation with various independent artists and workshops in the Jura and Neuchâtel mountain regions, and produces high-end watches in limited series or as one-of-a-kind creations. Its vocation is to further enhance the brand’s rich heritage through a decidedly creative approach – witness the recent patent re¬quests relating to distinctive new watch mechanisms.
