Pacific Pearls becomes Golay

Pacific Pearls Pte Ltd in Singapore and its daughter company in Kuala Lumpur have been renamed Golay Pte Ltd and Golay Sdn Bhd, as of January 1, 2001.

Pacific Pearls was founded in 1980 and built a solid reputation in the region's jewelry trade, as a supplier of cultured pearls. The company played a major role in developing a market for the South Sea pearl. In 1996, it joined the Golay Group, in order to receive the backing of the worldwide pearl network.

What are now the reasons for giving up a good name like Pacific Pearls?

“We are stepping into a new age of pearl trading,” explains Bruce Barnes, Managing Director. "Having always shared our know-how with our customers, we appreciate being part of a group that is engaged in the farming, trading and marketing of cultured pearls. Now, inspired by today's environment of technology and globalization, the Golay Group prepares some fascinating initiatives, which will allow us to be still more effective in our region.

"Take the Group's latest creation, the Golay Pearls Quality Label. The formula makes the cultured pearl's quality criteria easy to understand by anyone and it specifies the requirements for a pearl to obtain the label. In public surveys commissioned by the Group, virtually all jewelry consumers declare being tempted by pearls, but many are reluctant to buy them, because they feel unable to judge their quality. That indicates that the potential for market expansion is considerable. With the Quality Label, retailers find it easy to give their prospects the necessary confidence. Thanks to Golay's worldwide presence, they will have the same facility in Kuala Lumpur as in Kobe, Hong Kong, Paris or New York. Jewelers and their customers can give more attention to the pearls' type, size, shape and color, which are not quality aspects, but matters of their personal preference.

“Yes, we naturally feel nostalgic about putting the name Pacific Pearls on the shelve. But our future is with Golay, and we identify 100% with the Group's philosophy and exciting projects.”
