A watch designed as a miniature book of the Koran achieves an outstanding record

At Antiquorum's auction sale, held in Geneva on the 15th of October, an unusual 18K gold Tavannes form watch designed as a miniature book of the Koran, was sold for the exceptional price of SFr. 130.000 (US$ 73,865) even though its price was estimated at SFr. 5.000-6.000 (US$ 2.800-3.400).
The case of this fine gold form watch is a three-body, the hinged back is engraved with a view of the Mecca, with an opening in the center to reveal the Koran. When opened, a miniature Koran inside a compartment is revealed, with a loop at the top for use as a pendant. The dial is silvered with applied gold Arabic numerals. The dimensions of the watch are 22x31 mm.
