Gevril “Serenades” New York with Time, Speed, Paul Newman and Mario Andretti

October 2004

Paul Newman, Mario Andretti, Joan Collins, Anne Hathaway, Jesse Palmer and Chris Botti as well as more than 450 guests came together at the Tourneau Time Machine in New York City to celebrate the much anticipated launch of the Gevril Swiss Timepiece Companies new, limited edition, timepiece - “Serenade.”

Gevril, partnering up with Champ Car and the Herdez racing team, of which Gevril is associate sponsor, hosted the “Serenade of Time and Speed.” With hurricane Jeanne blanketing New York City in a deluge of relentless rain, Mario Andretti, Paul Newman and Herdez Champion Driver Mario Dominguez suited up in full racing gear at the Plaza Hotel to kick off the evening’s activities. It was Andretti and Newman sharing the drive in a special two-seat Champ Race Car and Dominguez riding solo in the Herdez car arriving within seconds of each other at the Timemachine. As the crowed cheered their arrival, all eyes shifted to the Herdez pit crew as they dazzled everyone with a masterful performance of a live pit stop.

Once inside Andretti rolled up his suit sleeve revealing a stunning 18 carat rose gold Gevril Serenade and proclaiming to the crowd “My Gevril Timepiece tells me that I have arrived on time.” The energy was electric as Mr. Andretti and Mr. Newman posed together for an entourage of press photographers with camera flashes firing quicker and more brilliant than a string of forth of July fireworks. As the intensity normalized it was once again invigorated with the arrival of Joan Collins sporting a diamond studded Gevril Avenue of Americas “Mini,” Anne Hathaway cuffed in a blue and gold dial “Mini,” Chris Botti wrist-wrapped in an Avenue of Americas GMT Power Reserve and the “Bachelor,” Jesse Palmer committed to his Avenue of Americas GMT Power Reserve.

As if the celebrity element was not enough guests were treated to a special “Serenade of Time and Speed’ in the Timemachine Museum which featured a historical visual tour of the Gevril and Champ Car origins which included an authentic Gevril Pocket watch from 1800 and the actual Herdez Champ Car. A highlight of the ‘Museums’ attraction was the exhibition of distinguished artists of the racing circuit who donated a collection of racing inspired artwork focusing on the evening’s theme of time and speed. Thousands of dollars were raised as the artwork was auctioned of with all proceeds benefiting The Paul Newman Charity “ Hole in the Wall Camps.”

Guests were serenaded by “The Beat of New York” 103.5 WKTU and special guest host DJ-Diane Prior. The award winning Prime Grill dished out some of the New York’s most delicious delicacies and Hpnotiq Liquor quenched the partygoer’s thirst.
