Cuervo y Sobrinos toasts 125 years

August 2007

Cuervo y Sobrinos, a watch and jewelry company founded in Cuba 125 years ago, celebrated its anniversary and its re-emergence on the global brand scene at a celebration in Madrid that drew 300 people.

Loyal customers, celebrities and even royalty converged last week on the La Zarzuela race track and gardens in Madrid, Spain.

But the company's true roots lie in Havana, Cuba, where founder D. Armando Cuervo and his family started the company and grew it into one of the world's most reputable jewelry and watchmaking companies, with jewelry workshops in Germany and France, watchmaking facilities in Switzerland and retail customers all over the world.

After a long period of inactivity due to the political situation in Cuba, the brand re-emerged in 2003.

Guests at the Havana-themed celebration included Princess Beatriz de Orleans, Countess de Romanones and Spain's ambassadors for Cuba and Morocco, among others. Attendees were treated to a reproduction of the original Cuervo y Sobrinos boutique, the opportunity to view several classic cars, mingling with revelers dressed in period costume, music from a big band and more.
