Mondaine Brings Back Unique Alarm

April 2009

Mondaine

The brothers Bernheim, Ronnie and AndrÉ, who run the Mondaine operation, have mined their family’s rich watchmaking history to bring back a unique alarm function, introducing it this year as the Sport II Chrono Alarm. The alarm watch features an innovative sound box on the back of the case that the brothers’ father pioneered more than 30 years ago. The metal box amplifies the sound of the alarm, making it very audible indeed.
The Sport II Chrono Alarm, which retails for 695 Swiss francs, is offered with a black or white dial with the signature red SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) second hand and red accents. The watch comes in a 42 mm stainless steel case, with a black IP coated bezel affixed with six polished steel screws. The watch is powered by the Ronda Quartz 5130.B with Alarm movement.
Mondaine, known for its award-winning ‘just in time’ production, is moving into a new facility in Biberist, Switzerland in 2009. This new complex will feature a clean room where dust, humidity and temperature are controlled beyond current Swiss standards. The new factory will be about four times the size of the existing production facility and Mondaine expects this will result in an improvement in the flow of material and will continue to improve its industry-leading ‘just in time’ production.
