In preparation for 2016, Frederique Constant presents a new model of its Horological Smartwatch, reminding us that TAG Heuer is not the only player in the connected luxury wristwatch game.

Frederique Constant was the first in the Swiss watch industry to introduce a connected luxury piece, fittingly called the Horological Smartwatch. And the Geneva based brand has now given us a taste of what we can expect for 2016, with the presentation of a new model of its pioneering Horological Smartwatch.

Over the last 6 months, the innovative timepiece was very well received. So much so that to meet increasing demand, the brand decided to introduce a new model, aimed at classical timepiece lovers who also want the added value of modern, mobile technology.

Horological Smartwatch, version 2.0

The new, hand crafted Horological Smartwatch comes with a 42mm rose gold plated case, which is complemented well by a navy blue dial that features applied indexes and roman numerals. The watch is finished with a blue alligator leather bracelet, staying true to Swiss classical design.

The “smart” part of the watch comes from its engine: the MMT-285 calibre which works in tandem with Fullpower’s end-to-end MotionX technology platform. It includes a suite of integrated firmware, software, and communication components that provide ground-breaking yet non-invasive wearable technology. In this watch, for example, it allows the wearer to effortlessly and accurately track activity and sleep patterns.

The smaller dial at 6 o’clock position shows the percentage of your activity or sleep against your goals in real-time. This information is also displayed in the partnering MotionX-365 mobile app, which is available for iOS and Android, and provides simple and easy to understand graphics to demonstrate your daily activities and track progress over time.

While it does have limited smart features, especially when compared to the leading smartwatches on offer today, the goal of the Horological Smartwatch is not to outsmart the competition. Rather it is to provide some connectivity features while at the same time remaining true to traditional Swiss design and quality. The result is a watch that acts smart and looks smart, too. Another added benefit is that, unlike the leading smartwatches on offer, this one provides an impressive battery life that will keep your Horological Smartwatch running up for two and a half years before real placement, without needing a single charge.

Brands are already planning their strategic moves and looking forward to 2016. But we should also appreciate what Frederique Constant accomplished in 2015. Along with the launch of the MotionX powered Horological Smartwatch, the brand also introduced 5 new in-house calibers to its repertoire this year. With those kind of big and positive moves, Frederique Constant will certainly be a brand to watch out for in 2016.
