The new WSD-F10 Smart Outdoor Watch featuring Android Wear provides rugged performance tested to military standard specifications. But how does the new outdoors smartwatch watch really stack up?

Casio has been in the watch game since 1970s. But the new WSD-F10 Smart Outdoor Watch is far removed from the Casio digital watches you might be familiar with. The new watch incorporates Casio’s known tough performance with cutting edge sensor technologies, producing a reliable smart watch for the true outdoor enthusiast.

The new WSD-F10 wrist device is optimal for the outdoors, and not just because it is tested to military standard specifications to ensure it can withstand the toughest challenges that nature can throw at it. The WSD-F10 also delivers many new, original Casio apps for outdoor activities, like trekking, cycling, and fishing.

It provides real-time information that can help any adventurer tackle the rugged outdoors with a piece of mind. These apps measure changes in the natural environment and track activity levels, providing information like compass direction, air pressure and altitude, sunrise and sunset times, tide graphs, and activity graphs.

This wealth of information is provided thanks to the air pressure and altitude sensor, as well as an accelerometer, gyrometer and magnetometer on the inside. But all those features come at a price; the watch has a rather bulky albeit rugged case, weighing in at about 90 grams.

But if you’re concerned that those options will limit your battery life, worry not. The watch also has a dual layer display, with either a monochrome or colour LCD face. So you can display measurement data and apps in color, or extend the device’s life to more than one month by selecting a mode that displays only watch data though a monochrome display.

In terms of user friendliness, the watch’s operating buttons are large enough and feature a slip-free finish, meaning they can easily be operated even with gloves on. It even comes in an option of four colours - including green, orange, black, and red – making it look better than the average outdoors smartwatch. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that you will be wearing this watch 24 hours per day: first and foremost it’s an accessory for your outdoor life.

When it’s all said and done, the Casio Smart Outdoor Watch WSD-F10 is a smartwatch that delivers what it promises: reliability and functionality with smart technology. It is perfect for the outdoorsy types, and there it will not disappoint, especially at a price point of about $500. Expect the WSD-F10 Smart Outdoor Watch to move fast when it becomes available for sale in April of this year.
