Corum re-launches the Admiral's Cup Tides 48

The Admiral's Cup ‘Marées’ was launched in 1992. Its three complex mechanisms (developed by Dubois Dépraz in collaboration with the Astronomical Observatory in Geneva and the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the French National Navy) indicated the lunar cycles, thus giving the strength of the tides, an estimation of water levels, the strength of the currents, and the time of the tide, making this timekeeper very useful to many sailors. With variations that can attain levels of more than 17 metres and cause currents of more than 10 knots (1 knot = 1.852 km/h), the Admiral's Cup ‘Marées’ is a veritable tool that is able to, in certain cases, keep the ship from running aground.
Corum, under the leadership of its young director, Michael Wunderman, is re-launching this collector’s watch, which is still equipped with the same exclusive Co-277 automatic movement. In keeping with the tastes of today, however, the size has been changed (48mm), and its appearance has been made more avant-garde (titanium is used for the case and clasp, while vulcanized rubber is used for the bezel, case back, and the lateral extension of the crown and bracelet). In this way, the size is greater but not the weight (due to titanium’s lightness). The watch is also highly resistant to oxidation and corrosion, and is flexible, pleasant to wear, as well as being anti-magnetic (so that it does not interfere with the onboard instruments and compasses).

The dial has been entirely redesigned drawing inspiration from the dodecagonal case of the Admiral's Cup collection. The hour markers are in the shape of nautical pennants, which correspond to the International Signal Codes, and the whole is protected by a technically sophisticated sapphire crystal. Thanks to micro-rays cut into each angle of the glass and in the form joints that encircle the twelve faces of the glass, the contact with the seal is optimal, thus guarantying perfect water-resistance to 300 metres.
With all of its nautical qualities, the wealth of tide-gauging indications and its resolutely ‘post-modern’ design, there can be no doubt that the Admiral's Cup Tides 48 will impress every sailor on the sea.
