Rare Patek Philippe offered at auction for the first time in Antiquorum’s September sale

September 2006

Patek Philippe aficionados will be happy to note that there will be an outstanding selection of the brand offered for sale on September 20th 2006 in Antiquorum’s auction of Important Collectors’ Wristwatches, Pocket Watches & Clocks. Amongst them is a Patek Philippe ref. 5074 and a 5970. Collectors will have the opportunity to bid on these rare and fine timepieces at the Grand Havana Room in New York (666 5th Avenue - at 53rd Street).

The Patek Philippe ref. 5074 is a very rare, large, astronomic, minute-repeating self-winding, 18K yellow gold wristwatch with perpetual calendar, leap year indication and moon phases. The reference was launched in 2002, only in yellow gold and available with a silver or black dial. In 2005, during the Basel fair, Patek Philippe presented the pink gold version. It is considered the successor to the famous 3974. The mechanism is the same in both references with the exception of the gong which goes twice around the movement in order to give a better and louder sound. This type of gong is called a ‘cathedral gong’. Estimate: US$ 300,000 - 350,000

The other exceptional Patek Philippe in the sale is the reference 5970. This will be the first time that this reference will be offered at auction. It is a very fine astronomic, water-resistant, 18K pink gold gentleman’s wristwatch with a square button chronograph, register, perpetual calendar, moon phases, tachometer, and sapphire crystal back. Estimate: US$ 65,000 - 85,000.
