Colour, railways and legends

April 2004

A brief look at the latest distinctive creations from Omega.

As is their wont, Omega has introduced three new models for BaselWorld. The stuff of legends, these latest creations offer a kaleidescope of colour, an outsize timepiece dedicated to the railways and a respectful tug of the forlock at Michael Schumacher, an extraordinary champion.

Aquarella
Colour takes centre stage in Omega’s latest creation for the ladies in a classical form inspired by an original watch of the 1930s.
The model sees the light of day under the name of Aquarella. The stainless steel case and lugs are entirely diamond-set (80 diamonds weighing 1.573 carats) and there is also an inner ring which can be set with 48 more stones - either more diamonds or amethysts, aquamarines, mandarin garnets, pink tourmalines, rubies, sapphires, tsavorites and yellow beryls. The white mother-of-pearl dial, the Arabic numerals and the white alligator strap offer a classical rendering to a watch that is equipped with an automatic Calibre 2200 movement which has a 44-hour power reserve and has been issued with a COSC certificate.

Railmaster and The Legend

Railmaster
Omega supplied official pocket watches to railways around the world from 1895 onwards. The first Railmaster wristwatch, launched in 1957, was destined for not only railway workers, but also scientists, technicians, electricians and anyone working in high tension zones since it sported an anti-magnetic double case to protect it from any harmful electric fields.
At 49.2 mm, the new Railmaster is the largest watch in Omega’s vast range of watches. Equipped with the 16.5 line (37.2 mm) hand-wound Calibre 2201 this COSC certified chronometer movement has a power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound. The sapphire crystal caseback offers a view of the timepiece’s Côtes de Genève decoration, circular graining and its bevelled bridges. The watch has a mat black dial with luminous SuperLuminova dauphine hands, indices and Arabic numerals. The Railmaster is water-resistant to 150 metres and comes with a brown alligator leather strap with a folding clasp.

The Legend
Omega pays homage to the successes of Michael Schumacher by launching a Limited Edition of the Speedmaster. This stainless steel chronograph (38.8. mm) has the typical elements of the Speedmaster – tachometric scale, luminous ‘stick’ hands and hour markers – and is fitted with the Omega Calibre 3301 self-winding column wheel chronograph movement. The chronograph has a central seconds hand with a 30-minute counter a 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, a continuous seconds counter is at 9 o’clock and there is a distinctive red minute track on the black dial. The watch has a matching stainless steel bracelet with a fold-over clasp and is water-resistant to 100 metres.
The casebacks are numbered 0001 to 6000 and carry the inscriptions: ‘Sixth Title Limited Edition’ and ‘Michael Schumacher / The Legend’ as well as the signatures of Ferrari and Omega.
