IGI India Seminar Hailed as a Success

May 2004

The International Gemological Institute (IGI), one of the world’s leading gemological labs certifying and valuating diamonds and fine gemstones, held another diamond grading seminar in Mumbai last week.
The six-day seminar was sponsored by diversified mining company Rio Tinto as part of its Business Excellence Model initiative in India.
The seminar has been three times before, twice in January and once in February, and all the seminars were completely booked. The latest seminar, from April 26 to May 1, was held because of the strong demand.
The seminars aim to fill a growing need for members of the Indian diamond community to learn about the one internationally accepted system for diamond grading and to gain an understanding of the grading system.
IGI has Schools of Gemology in Belgium , India, Italy, Korea and the United Arab Emirates and in 2001 it began teaching courses in China.
IGI has two full service gem testing laboratories in India (one in Mumbai and the other in the Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone, known as SEEPZ Zone).
