Beijing Party gives prelude to Hong Kong Watch and Clock Fair

June 2004

Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the organiser of Hong Kong Watch and Clock Fair, has just launched a promotional event across the border of the Chinese mainland, tapping on the flourishing market potential in the region.

“Hong Kong remains the best sourcing hub for watches and clocks” was the message conveyed at the party which played host to 150 special guests in the watch business on June 11, 2004. HKTDC's Assistant Executive Director, Mr Benjamin Chau said: “The aim of this party is to promote Hong Kong's unique position as Asia's best sourcing platform for watches and clocks. It reflects the increasing affluence of the Chinese people who tend to source branded watches from Hong Kong, a place where all the famous watch brands from around the world converge.”

The preview party combined with an entertaining watch parade, and displayed the latest watch collections from 21 Hong Kong companies, all of which will throw a wider selection to buyers at the upcoming fair in September 2004.

The 2004 event is expected to welcome over 700 exhibitors from around the world. The Chinese mainland, Korea and Taiwan are in the pipeline to stage their pavilions, rendering the fair a truly international one. The premier section of Brand Name Gallery, a dedicated zone for branded timepieces, will showcase over 50 brands from 10 origins encompassing the Chinese mainland, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, the Netherlands, Singapore, Switzerland, UAE and Hong Kong.

For those on the lookout for market information, the several conferences and seminars are must events. The Seminar topics span from “the Market Development of International Branded Watches in the Chinese Mainland”; “CEPA Seminar- Business Opportunities for the Watch Business”; “Update on Indian Watch Market; Judging Criteria and Promotional Strategies for the Chinese mainland Branded Watches”. The Business Matching Meetings provide a forum for worldwide label representatives to meet with watch manufacturers to discuss further opportunities to develop branded watch lines.

Worth mentioning is the Hong Kong Watch and Clock Design Competition, which portrays the flair of talented local designers and students. And there will be mini watch parades running during the fair period to add more spice to the fair.
