Trade & Industry Celebrations in Singapore

September 2004

The 15th Asian Horological Trade & Industry Promotion Conference and SCWTA 75th Anniversary celebration will be held at the Shangri-la Hotel Singapore from 17th to 19th October 2004.

The Singapore Clock & Watch Trade Association (SCWTA) is proud to be the event host for the Asian Horological Conference this year. The conference originated in the 1970s when the regional watch and clock industry players from Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, PRC, the Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan came together for a regional alliance. The conference is now held every two years, with an objective to provide an opportunity for Asian watch & clock manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers to update one another on the industry development in the region, as well as networking among these industry players. The last time Singapore hosted the conference was in 1988.

The conference this year will focus on the theme: “The Changing Times of the Asian Watch Industry”. The horological trade has experienced numerous changes, even in the short period of time since the conference last congregated in 2002 in Seoul, Korea, as the world situation continued to evolve beyond anyone’s control. This gathering will provide us with the best opportunity to update ourselves on the region’s development, strengthen our network and plan for the year ahead.

The conference coincides with SCWTA 75th Anniversary celebration this year. We are expecting close to 200 foreign delegates for the conference, and over 600 local guests at the celebration dinner.
