Industry Veteran Joins IGI Toronto - Terry Buckham to Lead IGI Education Efforts in North America

The International Gemological Institute (IGI), one of the world’s foremost authorities on certifying and valuating diamonds, fine gemstones and jewelry, today announced the hiring of Terry Buckham, G.G.

Buckham will lead IGI education efforts in Canada as well as contribute to the Institute’s courses globally. He comes to IGI from the Antwerp Diamond High Council (HRD) where he was an operations manager and oversaw business in Canada and the United States. Prior to that, Buckham worked in senior management at a large U.S. retail jewelry chain. He is a graduate gemologist (GIA) and a certified diamond grader (HRD).

“IGI is committed to educating the industry through superior gemological classes that couple theoretical learning with invaluable hands-on work. Terry’s expertise and industry insight will benefit IGI on a global level,” stated IGI President Jerry Ehrenwald, G.G., A.S.A.

IGI has a long-standing history of education within its Schools of Gemology in Antwerp, India, Italy, Korea, China and the United Arab Emirates. In 1997, the Institute became the first organization to teach rough diamond classes in Canada. To date over 150 Canadians including members of the Department of Mineral Resources, Government of the Northwest Territories and Royal Canadian Mounted Police have been educated through IGI’s Canadian rough diamond program.

Founded in 1975, IGI has provided the fine jewelry community and consumers worldwide with a broad range of services including: LaserscribeSM, diamond grading reports, colored stone reports, identification and appraisal reports and diamond and colored stone courses offered through IGI’s School of Gemology.

IGI is the only international certification lab wholly owned and controlled by one central governing body, ensuring consistency in its reports worldwide. Additionally, IGI is the only international gemological lab to become ISO 9001:2000 certified in the United States, Canada and India. The Institute strictly adheres to the one internationally accepted system for diamond grading.
