Success for Iberjoya

December 2004

The last edition of IBERJOYA, which took place at FERIA DE MADRID between 9th and 13th September, confirmed once again its ability and effectiveness to bring together a considerable number of professionals within the sector. An international forum and an excellent platform for trade expansion that presented the offer of 575 exhibiting companies and was attended by 23,861 professional visitors.

These figures, meaning increases of 5% and 2% respectively as opposed to those from the September 2003 edition, have guaranteed the solidity of IBERJOYA, which has become one of the most outstanding professional trade fairs on the international circuit.

Other parameters showing this reality are those that may be deduced from the data analysis regarding the origin, the international stature and the profile of the visitors. From this point of view we should underline the professional visitors from all over Spain, mainly from the regions with greatest commercial activity, amongst them Madrid, with 22% of the total amount; Andalusia (14%); Valencia (10%), Catalonia (8%) and the Basque Country (somewhat more than 4%).

The list of international purchasers has meant around 6%, with an important attendance by professionals from Europe, with Portugal, Italy, France, Belgium and the United Kingdom in the lead, as well as from the United States and from the Latin American area, mainly from Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela. The international dimension of IBERJOYA is also reflected in the increasing direct participation of companies from abroad, that on this occasion featured 145 exhibitors from Germany, Andorra, Belgium, Brazil, China, Colombia, United States, France, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Switzerland and Turkey.

With regard to the profile of these visitors according to their activity, the majority of professionals attending the fair were from the retail sector, with 64.6%, followed by the wholesales sector, with 14.8% and the designers sector, with 6.7%. Likewise, greater attendance of professionals from large department stores was observed, making up 3.9% of the total visitors.

The promotion of the watch sector and the strength of high-class jewellery

In general, the activity at this edition was characterised by the promotion of the watch sector in response to the dynamism of the exhibiting companies in this segment and to the wide variety of product on display, both in jewellery watches and in the wide range of proposals for casual watches.

In jewellery, the strength of the haute joaillerie segment could be seen which, once again, surprised with the presentation of important, exclusive pieces with personality that continue to gain favour in their market share. In addition to this, the preview of the collections aimed at the male public and in general, an offer made of new designs and the development of fashion lines that grant jewellery a more every day treatment, both for day wear and for evening wear stood out. The space VANGUARDIA, devoted to designer's jewellery, was full of creativity and new ideas, opening the door to many designers with expectations in the business field.

The silversmith sector presented a selection of contents with attractive, suggestive articles that combined silver beautifully with new materials and where the merging of tradition and modern lines stood out.

Completing the offer at IBERJOYA the Related Industries occupied a relevant space where they concentrated on the latest in equipment, machinery, packaging, services, etc., to offer customised solutions for professionals according to the business.

Fashion, trends, exhibitions and other activities

In this way, IBERJOYA has become a reference point for taking the sector's pulse and for developing initiatives, presentations and activities that contributed to a greater spreading of information, exchanging of experiences and to emphasising the image of a business group with a great creative capacity and a rising ranking in the world of fashion and design.

In this respect, IBERJOYA staged the THIRD TRENDS FASHION PARADE, a fashion parade that forms part of the programme known as MADRID LIVES FASHION, that under the slogan “Pirates and Princesses”, presented a tropical ambience, based on a South Seas theme, evoking two distinct fashion trends: a folk-ethnic and adventure-based trend and another more feminine, sensual and romantic trend. The Fashion Show also allowed the new collections by Lotus Style, by the firm Festina to be seen with very up to date lines, aimed at the younger public, both male and female.

At the end of the Fashion Show the traditional IBERJOYA Gala Dinner was held, which with around a thousand guests was used as a stage to pay tribute to the deans of the jewellery profession with over 50 years of continuous work in the retailer field. In this respect, the IBERJOYA Organizing Committee recognized the contribution made by Manuel Carrera, Octavio Sardá, María Angulo, Rafael Astrain, Ricardo Fernández, and Carlos Roibas de Inza. For its part, the DUPLEX Group also joined this initiative in order to pay homage to two important figures in the jewellery industry whose careers also span a period of over 50 years, both of whom are well known on the international scene: Manuel Carrera and Octavio Sardá.

In order to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the professional career of the Honour President of IBERJOYA Organizing Committee, Manuel Carrera, the fair presented a unique exhibition that gathered a wide-ranging selection of pieces from his sculptural work known as “MI MOMENTO” (“My Moment”).

As is customary at September editions, the day before the opening the fair staged the Fifth IBERJOYA Golf Tournament, sponsored by SANDOZ, part of the Munreco Group. A sports event, at which exhibitors and clients have the opportunity to establish closer links within a relaxed and entertaining environment.

Also the day before the fair opening, IBERJOYA hosted the Sixth Edition of PRODIAM, the Diamond and Precious Stone Professionals Meeting in Spain, an event that focused, on this occasion, on the Importance of Brand. PRODIAM was organized by Grupo Nexo, with the collaboration of Laboratorio Gemacyt, Iberjoya-Ifema and the Diamond High Council in Antwerp.

In view of these results, the next edition of IBERJOYA, which will take place between 13th and 18th January 2005, with excellent participation prospects. In a first survey, virtually all the exhibiting companies have already confirmed their presence at this edition. Furthermore, new companies have already started processing their requests for space.
