Carl F. Bucherer opens own boutique in St. Petersburg, Russia

December 2005

The independent watchmaker Carl F. Bucherer (based in Lucerne, Switzerland) has opened the first shop to sell Carl F. Bucherer watches exclusively, in the presence of CEO Thomas Morf. The new boutique is in a very prominent location for welcoming customers, as it is situated between the Hermitage, which is a magnet for tourists, and the famous Nevsky Prospect boulevard. The boutique is Carl F. Bucherer's twentieth sales outlet in Russia.

Situated at 20 Malaya Morskaya Street, 190000 St. Petersburg, the boutique has four sales assistants, who will report to a shop manager. Examples of vintage watches from the last century will be on display, in addition to the current collection. The new shop is in the heart of the old town, not far from the renowned Hermitage Museum (formerly the winter palace of the Tsars) and two luxury hotels, the Astoria and the Angleterre. St. Petersburg, with its five million inhabitants and its outstanding geographical location, has all the sophistication of a western metropolis, and is Russia's second most important center for culture, industry and science.

“Our first single-brand boutique in St. Petersburg represents a further milestone in the history of the company and at the same time shows the importance of the Russian market as regards luxury watches and in terms of international distribution of quality goods. At the end of the year, we see Russia as having very encouraging growth prospects, alongside the potential in Asia and the US,” says Thomas Morf, CEO of Carl F. Bucherer. In August 2005 the company founded a new subsidiary in Taipei, to relieve the pressure on the head office of the major subsidiary in Hong Kong. Carl F. Bucherer Taiwan Ltd. looks after the whole of southeast Asia, as well as the domestic market in Taiwan.

Its many artistic treasures and places of interest, and its countless bridges, canals and sea walls, have led to St. Petersburg being called the “Venice of the North”. The long, snowy winters turn it into a fairytale city in the cold months of the year, while the light summer nights invite the visitor to linger. The watchmaker Carl F. Bucherer hasa long and distinguished history, and the opening of this boutique in St. Petersburg marks another step towards expanding the firm's market presence in Russia. The watchmaker from central Switzerland is already present in the Russian cities of Chelyabinsk, Kazan, Kemerovo, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Moscow, Nizhniy Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Perm, Rostov, Rostov-on-Don and Samara.
