US Study: Luxury goods among holiday's top-visited Web categories

Twenty-two percent more unique visitors surfed jewelry, luxury goods and accessories Web sites in December than November, according to a new study from comScore Media Metrix.

RedEnvelope.com was a top performer with 2.4 million unique visitors, a 62 percent increase over November. Other highly visited sites included Tiffany & Co. (up 47 percent with 2 million visitors), Kay Jewelers (up 63 percent with 1 million visitors) and Burberry USA (up 128 percent with 313,000 visitors).

Additional strong categories for the month included shipping sites and retail music outlets. Web traffic to shipping sites increased 31 percent over last year, showing the largest growth of any category. UPS represented the best site in the category with 18.6 million visitors, a 42 percent increase. Other solid performers included USPS.com, up 45 percent with 15.2 million visitors; and FedEx.com, up 35 percent with 11.4 million
