Russian watch market association

August 2006

More than 20 watch industry players, from watch manufactures to export and import companies, recently met in a conference hall at the Russian Federation Chamber of Commerce and Industry to form the Russian Watch Association.
The initiative received comprehensive support from the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The main aims of the Russian Watch Association are to form a set of codes for civilized market practice, to counteract unfair competition, to present and protect the interests of Association members in government, to provide help to companies in the industry, to define a strategy for watch market development, to discuss a concept and a program for watch market development in Russia with different government bodies..

It is important to note that for the past eight years attempts have been made to create an Association in order to take measures against the problems facing the watch industry. Until now, the market has remained one of the few business areas where there has been no Association or organization for consolidating opportunities and interests.

In spite of some quite natural disagreements between various groups of participants, a decision was made to create an Association. The necessity for an exchange of information between professionals and the consolidation of opportunities is essential in order to make decisions to solve the problems facing those in the Russian watch industry.

All companies have discussed the charter and elected directing bodies. Ten officials have been elected into the structure of the Board:

Chairman of Board – Tsivilin V. Director General of Chistopolsky watch factory ‘VOSTOK’
Vice-Chairman of the Board - Malofeeva L. Vice-President of the group ‘Consul’
President of the Association – Prudnikov I. Vice-President of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry

The assembly of the Association has been asked by the elected Board to complete documents of the charter, to lead state registration of the Association according to the law (regarding noncommercial organizations) and to present a project consisting of a plan of prime actions to the next assembly. It has also agreed
to familiarize itself with the charter and to take part in its discussion.
